THIS IS BULLSCHIZER!!!!!!!!!!!
I'm getting through my "fun summer things to do now that I've finished honours" list. I have managed to:
Have a girls night with Emma, Alex, Chriddy and Winnie
See girls I have negelected this year (Nina, Fiona)
Call Kirsten and see how she's settling in Melbourne - well I went to melbourne so that's even better...
Clean reptile tanks and put in fake grass bottom instead of sand
Play with reptiles
See bands like Anti-Flag, Jackson United, Bob Evans, etc... (Anti-Flag cancelled but I'll get to see Bob tomorrow night!)
Have new years eve party with awesome friends (still planning on that)
See Tristan and not whinge about work
Watch all the TV I/Tristan have downloaded from the net
Organise Sydney trip and make my poster for ESA conference (almost done!)
Get resume/cover letter all fancy for job applications (I'm applying for a job today!)
Play nintendo!
Get rabies vaccine/organise buses and stuff for Tolga (getting my titre levels checked at the moment)
Work and actually earn money!
Maybe dye my hair (done and I'm so glad I no longer have regrowth)
Eat lollies
I only have a bit of it left to go, how exciting. Well, I'm about to get my thesis bound now for handing up (how exciting) so I'm going to get that done then it's poster & job apps.

Well, this week has been pretty good really.
I went into uni every day to polish up my thesis/finish my poster for the ESA Conference. I managed to do both although I think my poster still needs a bit of work, but I've got all this week so I'm not too worried. Thursday was judgement day though... Honours interview/getting our marks. Needless to say I was shitting bricks before my interview. Although, after I got in there I was sooooo relaxed. The "panel" turned out to be only Topa, Joan and Fleur. Fleur it turns out was my marker and she only had 2 questions about my project - one was about formatting too which was easy as! They also said that a lot of my work was very publishable, only I'd probably have to do a bit more research into why I found these patterns (eg: why herbivorous birds increased in abundance, why cycles of 8-9 years exist in species richness). They also complemented the amount of work I did on the dataset in such a short amount of time. I told them I probably got about three hours sleep in the last 2 weeks before handing up and they laughed... I didn't want to say it was actually true! Overall Fleur said my thesis was good but could have used a little more depth in the discussion. I said I agreed and that there were aspects I really would have liked to go into more detail about but I didn't finish the stats until the last minute. They agreed that I did a pretty good job though so I managed to get a high 2A! I'm fricking stoked considering I though I would only JUST pass but I managed to almost get first class. Overall this means I got a 2A but seeing as my GPA is pretty high it's kinda like getting a B+ at school which I am VERY happy with.
Friday I went into uni and fixed up all my editing. Unfortunately my external marker did not send my marked thesis back so I'll see what he suggests and if I need to make changes I will but apart from that I'm done with it!! Pretty much all I need to do now is my ESA Poster for the Conference in Sydney that I'm leaving for next Sunday. Wow, I cannot freaking wait to go to Syd again AND present a poster at an ecological conference. Topa and everyone at the uni have been saying how good an opportunity it is for networking and job hunting so I'm going to try and meet as many people (hopefully bat people) as possible to pimp myself for a job! Oh and speaking of jobs - I got an e-mail today about an avian/wildlife ecology research assistant position in Northern Victoria. It doesn't look like it would be over my head, pretty much the same as stuff I did this year only in agricultural/arid land (yessssssss) and there would be way more field stuff (booyeah!). So I'm going to apply, I don't even know if I'd get an interview but I figure I may as well apply seeing as the job doesn't start til March 09 which means I'd still be able to go to Tolga. So that's this weeks job as well as finishing my poster. Anywho, it has been lovely getting back to having a life outside uni. I can't wait for Sydney, then working like a mofo until xmas, then a puppy on Dec 27th, then New Years party, then TOLGA! I have a lot to lok forward to after this crazy crazy year.

The motherfucking thesis was handed up last Wednesday... but I wasn't really happy with it so here I am at uni on a Saturday night editing. The thesis gets published online at the end of the year so to ease my mind I'm going to fix it up as best I can then I get my marked copy on the 20th and can make the changes the uni wants me to make... THEN on the 24th of November it gets handed in and is totally totally finished. I cannot freaking wait until then. I'm pretty confident about my content and methods so I'm not really worried about my interview it's just making all the changes in time so that I don't look like a douche when it gets published online. I'm thinking I won't though seeing as I'm still at uni working my ass off. At least I can take comfort in the fact that it is all handed up and I'm really doing myself a favour in the long-run by editing like a mofo now. Anyway, I'm almost finished with my lit review so I'm gonna piss off now :)
Ok, so now I'm going to melbourne the day after my thesis is due to see Streetlight Manifesto and eat Krispy Kreme... Now more than ever I really want to finish this motherfucking thesis!!
Only a little while until I hand up my thesis. I really am excited to be done but nervous because I've still got a lot of work to do. I am almost finished my methods and plan to have my intro also finished but Monday, then it's full-on results and discussion. I know that I can do it but it's just that being sick and having my presentation on Tuesday has eaten up so much time. Anyway, I set up a little work area in the spare room until I get over my virus. I have both windows open so I can still smell the Spring air and get a nice breeze while I write. I can also hear bird calls and there's a birds nest right outside my window. It reminds me why I spent a whole year behind a computer working like a bitch, eating crap, not seeing friends and becoming a hermit.. it was all for the conservation of these animals. Anyway, thinking about after October 29th is weird because I'll be free to not worry about my thesis. I'll actually be available to do things with my mates too! So I thought I'd write a list of things I want to do when I'm done with honours. I WILL do everything on this list before I go to Tolga Bat Hospital in Jan!

Penn and Teller: BULLSHIT!
BEST SHOW EVER!!!!!
Everyone should see this show, it is so funny. Penn and Teller are magicians from the USA who have this TV show that pretty much just calls people out on their bullshit. It kind of reminds me of The Awful Truth only funnier. Each episode they pick a different topic. This is anything from psychics or bottled water to intelligent design being taught in schools. The funny thing is that they are not allowed to call people "scammers" or "liars" because they could get sued. They ARE however allowed to call people assholes or motherfuckers! It's the same with bullshit. They can call something bullshit but they're legally not allowed to say it's "false". This means there is lots of swearing - hilarious!
The guys that present it - Penn and Teller have been working together as performers since the late 70's. Penn is a very angry talkative dude who swears heaps but Teller does not talk at ALL. It makes the dynamic of the show so genius! Sometimes when Penn is ranting angrily about something - even if it's something that they are trying to make a point about in the episode - Teller sometimes takes off of his sock and stuffs it in Penn's mouth! They had an episode about people who pretend to talk to the dead and it was SO funny and TRUE. John Edward really is the biggest douche in the universe..

I don't know what it is but all of a sudden I find Shia Labeouf to be quite the attractive man... This is bad because Transformers is on Foxtel like every day and now I feel compelled to watch it each time. Alex got back from America (woot!) and I'm insanely busy with honours so until November I don't think anyone will hear much from me.
My weekend was pretty good. On Friday night I was meant to go bowling with Nadia and some people but I decided I had too much stats crap to do so I put Nip/Tuck on in the backround and accidently worked until 4:30 in the morning! I really didn't mean to but I'm glad I did because I got shitloads of work done. On Saturday I wanted to go into uni to enter some stuff into Minitab but I woke up at like 1 because of my late night and would have only been at uni for like an hour then would've had to laeve to go to Nate's. Instead of uni I was a good mum and fed my monitor Doakes. He was so funny!
I got Kym to watch because no one believes me how funny he is. He pokes his head out of his hide rock and sees you then freaks out and scrambles back in until you put some food outside his hide. Then if you move it around a little bit he'll get all excited and run out and attack it! I was taking ages to feed him the pinky though because I was trying to get my SLR camera to film him and it wouldn't. He ended up getting really impatient and standing outside his hide watching me. So when I cut him a bit more pinky and put the knife in his tank he leapt up of the ground about 10 cm and grabbed the knife with his mouth! Of course I freaked because I thought he might have cut himself but he was fine. He did it like two other times because he was being so impatient it was very funny.
In the end I decided to use my mum's little point & shoot to film him a bit (not eating unfortunately) but I also filmed Yogi eating a mouse which was very cool but took ages. he looked very happy afterwards though because I haven't fed him in a while, plus he just shed so i think he's probably feeling very fat and jolly right now. Oh and Yoshi shed too! he is starting to look like an actual water dragon now! His colours have come in a lot brighter and he has heaps more black on his back and on his eye stripe so I really really think he's a boy. I still can't properly tell if Jub Jub is but judging by the colour I would say she's a girl.
Saturday night it was Brody's birthday so we went to his house for drinks and pizza then to the German Club. Everyone else went to The Stag and I kinda would've liked to go there to hang out with Mercedes and others but I don't think any of the boys would have gotten in so we just didn't bother trying. Right now I'm filling out this application form for DEH Graduate Programs. The pay isn't that fantastic and I may be rellocated to the whoop whoop but once you're in the DEH you get e-mailed about like 10 internal jobs a week so even if I hated it I could just apply for something else. Some of the questions in this are really a bit silly though. Like the one I'm doing now:
"Describe a time when you have used your initiative to do something differently. State the basis for the judgement(s) you made and the outcome of taking the initiative."
What do they even mean by differently? I have a couple of ideas for that one but a lot of the questions are kinda crap. I think they just want to see if you can structure sentences and explain something in less than 200 words. Still it seems a bit unnecessary. Anywho, I'm about to get me some temperature data for autocorrelation so I best be off.

I really must stop injuring myself.. On Friday Tam accidently stepped on my foot with her high heel and it left a massive bruise. Hehe, poor love, she said sorry and it really wasn't her fault, we were both drunkenly dancing but it still bloody hurt! Then the day before last I electrocuted myself. I was changing the ligh in Doakes's tank and didn't realise it was stil plugged in. So it zapped my fingers & exploded all over Doakes the poor little guy. he was fine though, I tripple checked. Then yesterday I hit my head on the corner of a wooden bench and now I have an egg on my egg! On top of that I keep waking into doors and accidently hitting my legs on furniture. I think being on a computer all day every day has really left my body incapable of basic functions like avoiding pain. Ahh well hopefully I will return to normal soon...
Well, last week my family and I got to babysit our reles Cavalier, Mac. It was so nice to have a dog in the house again and wow, he is the funniest dog ever.

He's only 4 so very active which I have not been used to in a while so it was fun taking him for runs. He also eats an insane amount of grass! Everytime we'd take him out he'd spend half the time chewing on grass, crazy dog.

He also happened to snore, in true cavalier fashion, very very loud. Like louder than Coco (that's freaking loud!). And whenever I had him sleep on my bed he always had to have some form of bodily contact whether it was his head on my tummy or just a paw on my shoulder. It was very cute, but along with the snoring very annoying! I ended up kicking him out every night.

He is so cute though, and pretty! All the black on him is so pretty, and his coat is so long and glossy.

So on Saturday Jess and Alan came around to help scatter Coco's ashes and they brought Penny and Sam with them.

haha Mac is the most placid, lovely dog ever and I don't know why but he tried to mount Penny like 10 times! We had to stop him every time. Alan even picked Penny up because Mac would not leave her alone and he kept jumping up to try and get to her. Crazy dog.

We took them to the beach for a run, hehe I think they had fun.

After the beach with the dogs I went to Uball with Chriddy. We got free tickets so we had free booze for 4 hours then went to the Duke of York. It was a heaps good night, I even saw a couple of cool people from highschool. This weekend I have Kirsten's going away and Mel's 21st. Hopefully I'll be able to get some work done too because I really want to get my stats over with already! Alex called me today too, I can't wait until she gets home. There's only another couple of weeks to go though so yay!

Fricking data entry! It takes soooooo long and is so monotomous and boring! I have to do it so I can run my freaking stats already though. So that has pretty much been my week. I got to have fun this weekend though. Friday I met up with Chriddy, Emma and Winnie and we went to Birkenhead for cheap pub dinner then the Exeter for pool. We all got realy tired around 11 so I dropped the girls home and got to bed at like 2 because I stayed up reading Judith Lucy's book (so funny!).
Saturday I woke up late morning and decided I would stop fucking around and do some stuff I've meant to for ages. This meant that my day was spent in my room tending to my reptiles. I cleaned the turtle tanks and soaked everything in F10. I also took all the gravel out of Squirtle's tank because it holds SO much shit! Literally, shit. I couldn't believe how dirty it was making the tank so I'm glad I took it out.
I then harassed my snake Yogi for about 20 minutes trying to uncoil him from a light cord that runs across the ceiling of his vivarium. When he started to hiss and carry on I decided that it was too hard to get him down so I ignored him for a little while. When I looked for him again he was in one of his hide rocks so I took him out and played with him for like a hour because I really want him to get used to people. He must have still been a bit pissed off from me poking him because he struck at his hide when I picked him up! Oh well at least it wasn't at me :) I taped the ceiling cord down because it is waayyyy to hard to remove him from there and if my house was on fire or I had to take him to the vet or something it would be bad if I couldn't get him down. It's ok though because I put in a bendable vine for im to play on. I wrapped it around the silver birch log and sort of wedged it in between two walls so he'll be able to climb up there.
That night after I showered all the turtle water off me I went to Jade's house for a big uni catch up. That was really fun. The night ended with us drunkenly crying from watching the Land Before Time. I haven't seen that movie in years and I don't think I ever realised how effing sad it is! Poor Little Foot! It was a good night though and I'm not hung over today so booyeah! This week I'm pretty much going to be data entering and hopefully sorting out and running my statistics. I hope!

I went to Jade's on Saturday night. Was meant to sleep over and get boozey but after our first couple of drinks we decided that we didn't feel like drinking because apparently turning 21 means that we are old fogies! We still hung out though and she let me hold one of her bredli pythons and her north western carpet python! I wanted to hold one of the murray darling carpets but seeing as the female is gravid she didn't want to have to move them. I saw her head though and she is SO pretty! I really want one of her babies so hopefully they'll hatch out ok and I can score a friendly one.

Oh yeah I got a bit sunburnt on my face from the bird survey. It was like 18 km long but I wasn't as sore as last time so hopefully that means I'm slightly fitter than last time so yay!
Jade's having another thing on Saturday so hopefully I can harass more of her snakes. I am also trying to organise a thing on Friday with my other girls so hopefully it will be a fun girly weekend... with snakes of course.
Oh and I also took some photos of my dragon babies with their little pool all filled up. I was so proud yesterday too! I put a branch hanging over the pool because in the wild they stay on this branch and when danger comes they drop into the water below and swim away or submerge themselves. And they've been doing that lately just like they would in the wild! It's so cute. My little babies are growing up... I was also worried that they weren't eating enough but when I put some more crickets in the tank yesterday they scurried over and ate heaps of them. Admittedly I accidently put like 30 crickets in their tank as opposed to the 10 or so I was meant to. But they went apeshit and chased the crickets for ages. They are so cute.

Yoshi being cute. He looks really angry with his mouth open but he wasn't trying to bite, he was letting the water drops from his head go down to his mouth. awww...
I have also come to the conclusion that I think dragons and pythons are definitely my favorite animals to keep. Pythons because they're not aggressive and soooo easy to look after and dragons because they're so cute and fun to watch. I like my monitor Doakes but as far as his personality goes - he has a typical predatory monitor termperment. He is an excellent feeder, has beautiful colouration and would probably make a good breeding monitor but as far as a pet, I don't think that he is for me. I think I'm going to advertise him on herp trader soon so I can find him a good home with someone who loves monitors and would be really pumped to have him as a pet.

This way I can downsize and focus on the reptiles that I'm really passionate about keeping. I would also have a free tank that I could hopefully use for a Murray Darling juvenile. I think that I'l hold onto my turtles because they were my first reptiles and I'll be able to keep them outside eventually which will be better for them but other than that I think the only babies I'll be getting will be dragons or pythons.

Well, last week was ass for me. I had two pets die in the same weekend one of them being my dog Coco that we had since I was 9. What made matters worse was that my whole family was away overseas and couldn't even say goodbye. It was also ass because I had to deal with everything by myself. Like the lady at the animal hospital kept asking me questions about the urn that he'll be put in and I kept saying I don't care about the urn, just pick a basic looking one but she kept asking me about colour and style and shape. It was crap. So Monday I decided to honour him with a tattoo on my foot, it only took like 10 minutes so I was very happy. I've never been to Jetty Road Tattoo before but they were really good. This dude Nathan did it and he was really quick and professional. After that I had an in flux of visitors, mostly family, who gave me chocolate, flowers, chocolate, tissues and more chocolate. He was such a part of the family that even my cousins were calling me up crying saying how much they miss him already. It was so unexpected and crap but I'm better than I was last week at least.

Mum, Dad, Jess and Kym got back on Friday so it had been really good to have some company at home. They also brought me back heaps of cool shit including a reptile and a mammal field guide of North America. Very handy if I ever end up working there. Their photos were all really cool too. They got to go snorkelling at Hanouma (sp?) Bay and there was a green sea turtle eating sea grass like a meter away from them! They also saw sea lions in San Francisco and in Honolulu there were african black footed penguins, pond slider turtles and flamingos at their hotel. I was very jealous but one day when I have a job & money it will be my turn to back pack the crap out of the US.
This week has been ok so far. Yesterday I came into uni and Jade, Nadia and I had a gossip seeing as we haven't seen each other in a while and I found out last week Jade bought not 1, not 2, not 3, but FOUR new snakes! I was like WHAAA?! This dude was selling two Murray Darling Carpet Pythons and two classic Bredli pythons (both breeding pairs) with their enclosures cuz he had to move interstate. So Jade, being a reptile pro, was picked out of like 60 people. I was so bloody jealous then she told me how the female Murray Darling is pregnant! She was going to sell the eggs but after some reading decided that they wouldn't be too hard to hatch. I've been thinking about getting another python lately. I was considering a female Children's Python so that I could breed Yogi but now I'm just going to wait til the end of the year and get one of Jade's babies! They'll probably hatch in Nov/Dec so seeing as I'm going away from Jan to mid Feb I'll probably just get him when I get back from QLD. It's still very exciting though. We're going to have a big catch up sleep over next Saturday so I'll get to see all of them then (and be even more jealous!).
I also had my meeting with the uni statistician yesterday and wow - she is so cool! I thought that working with numbers all day would make her a dull person but not at all. She was cracking jokes and being really funny. I also managed to decide on my first stat test - Friedman k-sample test. I'm going to start that today and hopefully finish doing the tests before tomorrow arvo when I meet with Chris to look at my progress.
I also decided I'm going to send out my CV to Lubee. I haven't heard back from the guy since I asked him about costs and stuff, which I kind of need to know in advance but it's a long way away so it's better that I apply now and if I get the internship I can sort out my finances then. I really hope I can go. This would give me such good experience in so many different fields and it would also mean I wouldn't need to get a full time job right away (woot!). Ok, I best piss off and do some work on my CV then get started on stats.

Well, I have had a very eventful couple of weeks. My 21st was on Saturday night which was really really fun. I will probably put some photos on here when I can be bothered. Everyone dressed up (was Quentin Taratino theme) and seemed to have a really good time. I had so much fun and didn't throw up! That is a good accomplishment for a 21st so yay! It was so good to see everyone although I only got to hang out with people for about 5 seconds before I was pulled away by someone else. 21sts really are hectic for the people who host them. But oh well, it was a really fun night and wow did I score with presents! My new fancy digital SLR camera is totally paid for and I even have some cash left over for my flights to Cairns (Tolga Bat Hospital here I come!).
My family including my sisters boyfriend then all pissed off to America for 3 weeks on Monday. Bastards going in my honours year *shakes fist*. haha not really. I know they'll have heaps of fun but I'm so pissed that I couldn't go. It also meant that they missed out on my actual birthday which was on Tuesday. It's so funny how many people will not want to leave their house on a Tuesday night. Haha, it ended up just being Tristan, Winnie, Chriddy and I drinking strawberry daquiris at my house because all my friends either work full time and couldn't come, or were not in Adelaide! We still had fun though and watched the Mario Brothers movie, just like old times :)
I have been googling lately to see if there are any places in America that I could volunteer at next year. There are some "projects" that are apparently volunteer work that seemed cool but it literally costs thousands of dollars! Why the hell would you pay that much to volunteer somewhere?! I guess they must supply food and accomodation and stuff. But still it seems like a lot to pay for only a couple of weeks of work. My friend Alex who's in America being a Camp Counsellor at Camp Lakamaga in Minnesota said I should apply there next year for the Nature Specialist position. I would like to because it means I would be getting paid at least a little and still using my degree overseas. But I don't know how much hands on experience I would get with animals and that is what I am really after. Then I came accross this place called the Lubee Bat Conservancy which is in Gainseville, Florida. They have interships/volunteer positions there that could be caring for the bats or doing officey stuff like grant writing or doing interpretation stuff like giving presentations to schools and stuff. It sounds reeeeaally good and I contacted them about coming up next year but haven't heard back yet. Oh and they have like 3 different flying fox species that I've never seen before! Like this dude:

The Little Golden-mantled Flying Fox
They also have speckies and grey-heads which means I wouldn't be totally clueless. It's all up in the air at the moment though. I'll really just have to wait and see what comes along. All I know is that after honours I do NOT want to go straight into full-time work. Haha this one is a Malayan Flying Fox and it's scientific name is Pteropus vampyrus, teeheehee like vampire, that's funny.

Aww and look at these guys clustering like little reds:

That was an Egyptian Fruit Bat
Oh how I miss the bats, stupid doing birds for honours. Oh well. I'd better get back to working, I'm finishing off the description of my study site.

This week has honestly felt like one of the longest of my life. I can't wait until Monday and I can be rid of this draft and actually start my analysis. It will be a glorious day...
I was going through some old uni papers and in Third Year I did a BUGE elective (you do a subject that has nothing to do with your course) called Deconstructing Sexualities; Challenging Homophobia. It was external so there was no class, all we had to go by were some readings on the course home page and we had to do a major essay on a topic of our choice. Mine ended up being like 5,000 words and I remember I got a distinction for it. I had never done any arts subjects before and I got a distinction and the professor put my paper on the course home page so future students could read it. Thinking about it now... I would have rocked the shit out of an Arts degree. And I loved writing that paper! I got to bash homophobia and I even got to say 'fuck' in it! You could never do that stuff in a scientific paper. I do love the degree I did and working with plants and animals but if I ever lost both my legs or something or like went deaf and couldn't work in the environment, I would totally do something in arts. I don't really know what you do after you finish a degree but I think I would enjoy just writing papers like that one. Well, there ya go - if I have a nervous breakdown any time from now until the end of the year I have a Plan B.
Well, I got a distinction for my overall grade for Stats. This is very good as it means if I can manage a distinction average for my Thesis 1 class and get a distinction on my actual thesis I can get first class!! I really hope I pull it off that way if I decide to do a PhD later on I can get a scholarship. Haha mum is vacuuming and Coco keeps getting scared but he won't stop following her around.
On another note, I got woken up the past three mornings by my monitors! Or should I say monitor. Dexter (the smaller one) keeps running up and down the enclosure but because I have newspaper on the bottom (apparently sand is not good for baby monitors) he makes soooo much noise! But he's so little, it makes no sense. I thought it was Doakes because he's fatter but no, it was little dexter. Here is a picture of Doakes asleep, he's got his little head poking out of his hide rock. I love their pointy heads, it makes them look so sinister.

This is Doakes and Dexter next to each other. Doakes is the fatty :)

This is little Dexter. He's the nicer one. Monitors have long necks so if he wanted to he could turn around and bite me. He doesn't know how yet but Doakes does!

And this is Doakes. His back doesn't look very nice at the moment because he's shedding!

Awww little Dexter on his rock

These are my little water dragons asleep together. No they aren't doing anything frisky, they just sleep together sometimes to keep warm.

Awww who said reptiles aren't cute? Someone stupid - that's who! I took all these photos on my new phone which is why the quality isn't that great. But yay I am not phoneless anymore! I still need to get everyone's numbers off people because I need to send messages out about my birthday too so I'll get started on that today I think. And yay, Elisha and Tyson from uni are coming over today! They said they want to visit my zoo, hahaha.
